Feugo Volcanic Eruption - Guatemala

Fuego Volcano is an active stratovolcano in Guatemala

  • Recently erupted violently and buried several villages on its southern flank
  • Death toll is about 100
  • National forensic Science agency stated that, out of 99 people, only 28 state have been identified so far.
  • Some 200 people are still missing
  • New blow up of 3,763 meter volcano
  • Volcano is located just 27 miles Southwest of Capital Guatemala City
  • Ash reached as far as City's airport, forcing it to close
  • At its peak, Fuego reaches 12,346 feet above sea level and one of the most active volcanoes in Latin America
  • It sits on Ring of fire, a 25,000 mile horseshoe shaped area, where several tectonic plates rub against each other, creating intense volcanic activity and earthquakes
  • 3 quarter of world's active volcanoes can be found on Ring of fire.
