Gopabandhu Sambandhika Swasthya Bima Yojana is new health insurance scheme for Journalists launched by state govt in Odisha.
- The scheme provides Rs.2 Lakh per anum health insurance cover to all working journalists of the state.
Key Facts:
- The scheme came into effect from June 1st, 2018
- Initially covers around 3200 journalists and their family members at least five from various media groups
- Insurance coverage is applicable for cashless treatment in government and private hospitals.
- The scheme also covers injuries and illness faced by journalists while performing their duties.
- The scribes will get their health insurance card from District Information and Public Relations Officer (DIPRO) in their respective districts.
Name of Scheme:
- The scheme is named after Gopabandhu das (1877-1928) a prominent social worker, reformer, political activist, journalist, poet and essayist of Odisha.
- His contribution to art, culture and society to Odisha earned him the epithet of Utkalmani (jewel of Odisha)
- His contribution to journalism in the state was short but remarkable
- In decade of 1910, he launched a monthly literary magazine called satyabadi through which he tried to educate the masses.
